My (Un)Healthy Obsession with School Supplies- A Teacher’s Confession

School Supplies Blog Pin

Hi. My name’s Kourtney, and I’m a school supplies addict. *Hi, Kourtney!* My addiction started when I was in middle school with colored pens. And markers. And colorful notebook paper. And Trapper Keepers.

You get the picture.

This obsession/hoarding behavior is something that I live with every day. And NO. I don’t want a cure. I just want to shop for more supplies and be left alone. Do you feel me?

This morning I needed to go to Wal-Mart to get coffee creamer for my room. And I needed a small storage container for a poetry game. The problem is that I had to go to the Wal-Mart by my school instead of the one by home. This is a problem because they have a different set up in the store. The supplies aren’t in the back, they’re In. The. Middle. Of. The. Store. There’s no way to avoid them! And they were having a clearance! So here is what I got in addition to what I actually went in to buy:

Now, let’s be clear. I NEEDED all this stuff. The magnets? I need them for putting up work on the white board! The colored pens? The kids need them for annotating! The folders? Well, um, they’re just cool because you can make your own cover! The little flags? I need to mark things in important staff development manuals and book study materials! And the binder clips and paper clips? They just made good sense!

Do you see what I mean? I have a PROBLEM. Now, again, I enjoy my problem. When I go to Tuesday Morning to find cute file folders and sparkly tape dispensers, it’s not an errand. It’s fun! Plus, then I get to enjoy my stuff by using it in my classroom. And I don’t think I’m the only one with this affliction. I don’t even think it’s just because I’m a teacher. Surely everyone likes cute office supplies, right?

Even if they don’t, in my mind they MUST.
